Conclusion

In order to study whether sulfur can become a possible treatment solution for leaf diseases in organic cultivation, four treatments with the sulfur fertilizers Thiopron and Pioneer S are in the doses of 5 and 7 liters or kg per ha are tested for their ability to reduce disease attacks. There has been no attack of powdery mildew in the trials. The sulfur products show a very weak tendency to affect attack of rust, but more clearly a trend to inhibit attack by Ramularia leaf spot is observed. The highest dosage of both products shows a tendency to increase the sugar yield by 3 per cent, however, the increase has not been able to pay for the treatments.
