Sukkerroernes konkurrenceevne overfor ukrudt

Conclusion

In three trials, the ability of different sugar beet varieties to cover the field surface and thereby provide competition against emerging weeds is being investigated. The 2024 season was characterized by a very wet spring – and consequently very late sowing. A consequence of the late sowing has been that the top development of the beets was very fast and they have generally developed a lot of top. There have therefore not been the expected differences in the top structure. In one of the trials, however, there have been trends that the most covering variety has also had less weeds than the others. The trials in 2024 are the first year’s trials of this type and they are expected to be repeated in 2025. It will require several years of trials with different climatic conditions to be able to conclude anything specific.
